Apex Theatre Studio presents Qui Nguyen’s hilarious and action packed comedy She Kills Monsters.

She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans, a young woman grieving for her deceased sister. The Evans sisters never were especially close, but after Tilly’s death Agnes resolves a notebook containing a game scenario created by her sister. She discovers that Tilly was well-known Dungeons and Dragons player, and that she was passionate about online fantasy gaming. In order to unlock more secrets about her mysterious young sibling, Agnes recruits a “dungeon master” named Chuck to help her understand and grieve Tilly. Chock-full of supermodel elves, dominatrix warrior women, and nasty ogres, She Kills Monsters is a surprisingly sweet tale of friendship, loss, and acceptance.

Humorist Jean Sheperd’s memoir of growing up in the mid-west of the 1940s follows Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the tree for Christmas.  All the elements from classic motion picture are here: the exploding furnace, the school bully, the boys experiment with a wet tongue on a lamppost and the infamous leg lamp.  The Orlando Sentinel exclaims  “Classics bloom quickly in modern times…you don’t have to have grown up with 9-year-old Ralphie Parker and his ache for an air rifle under the tree to think of A Christmas Story as a Christmas must. And [this] version is just as kindly and just as cockeyed as A Christmas Story is meant to be.”
